HISTORY OF THE APPLE AIRPODS

AirPods is a product created by the makers of Apple Inc. and are wireless Bluetooth earphones that were introduced to the world in 2016. Although apple AirPods weren’t released until 2016, the idea originally was designed in 2011. They wanted to create earbuds that were wireless to be more convenient in the movement for their customers. Steve Jobs had first opposed the idea because he was not interested in his earbuds requiring Bluetooth connectivity and had doubts about quality issues and what customers would think of having to recharge earbuds just to use them.

Apple invested in the company Beats and its technology and in doing so the company Beats introduced its wireless headphones in 2014 which then led Apple to start its journey of creating wireless headphones. After the company introduced the iPhone 7 without the earphone jack hole port and transformed it to the same shape as the charging port it’s only a matter of time until they were able to transition the AirPods into the company’s consumers and weave off their normal wire headphones.

STRUCTURE OF AIRPODS

-Each AirPod weighs 4 grams individually and the AirPod case weighs 38g

-Each AirPod consists of Bluetooth compatibility and is equipped with a W1 chip for wireless connectivity

-Microphone in headphones contains noise cancellation, transparency, and sensors for ear detection coming from different accelerometers

-Earbuds have dots that are contributed to noise cancellation, microphone, and speaker purposes\

– The charging case has a port for wire charging and an internal battery compatible with wireless charging

– Touch control, double tap sensor, touch control

-Sweat and water resistant

-Personalized spatial audio with dynamic head tracking

-H1 chip

– “Hey Siri” feature

-5 to 6 hours of listening with one charge and 24- 30 hours with AirPods in the charging case

-18 to 24 hours of talk time

-Auto switch with connected Bluetooth devices

-Vent system for pressure equalization

-Adaptive EQ

-Each packing includes a lightning charging cable, silicone tips for earbuds from xs to xl

EARBUD BREAKDOWN

The picture above shows the components of the AirPod earbud itself, but we are going to dig a little deeper.  The hole on the bottom is there to allow airflow and where the microphone obtains its sound. The second hole on the side is to improve the vibrations of the sound translated to the earphone’s speakers. The third hole is the back speaker and where the other microphone is placed. All these holes work together as electric magnifiers and receptors for the microphone to translate properly and provide the speakers with clear sound and good quality. The bar of the headphone is where the antenna and battery are located. The antenna is where you touch for noise cancellation, transparency, or none, and where the earbuds will connect to the charging case. 

CHARGING CASE BREAKDOWN

The light on the outside or inside of the case shows the life of the charging case. Green stands for good charge and red means it will soon die and have no charge left. The button on the back is to connect AirPods to the iPhone or compatible devices. The port on the bottom is for the lighting charging cable or to place on top of a portable wireless charger. The two holes inside are for each AirPod to have its earbuds charging dock. The magnetic strip on the back between the lid and body of the case is for mobility to open and close the charging case.

THE GENERATIONS

As of right now there 3 different generations of AirPods but numerous models are depending on the charging cases either containing a wire or wireless option and AirPods design.

The first AirPods were invented in 2016 but are now considered the second generation because of medication made such as a longer battery life with a single charge, having the ability to use a wireless portable charger to charge the AirPods case, and light indications of battery life on the outside instead inside the charging case as seen below.

The third generation introduced in 2019 provided the AirPods to have a different model in both earbuds and case appearance. The new earbuds were formed to be water and sweat-resistant. One model has the attached silicone tips, and one does not as you will see below.

The Apple AirPods Max are headphones that go over the head and provide more comfort and nonslip option for those who use the Beats headphone since apple bought the company in 2014 from its owner Dr. Dre for 200 million, they wanted to reintroduce an over-the-ear option headphone versus the in-ear that were released in 2020. The headphone is made for travel convenience with a smart case to make it easy to pack away in many bags, book bags, etc.

This picture AirPod Max is one of the five colors that the product is available in for purchase including the smart case invented for storage adaptability.

CONCLUSION

Apple is always trying to find new and improving ways to grow their products in the company and keep the consumers happy. They continue to move along with what’s new and continue to evolve their products in the game to eliminate also possible competitors. All the holes, dots, and ports play an important role in the Apple AirPod product to promote good quality and prolong the longevity of the product. Hopefully, soon Apple will also introduce different colorways for the other earbuds and not just the AirPod Max because it will be pleasing and more appealing to other consumers to buy.
